The short version: you need a January 2027 offer, you must clear every offer condition except the deposit by the deadline, and you must be self-funding. RGU gives four of these awards and chooses on merit, so meeting the rules makes you eligible but does not guarantee a place on the list.
I read RGU’s scholarship page and its January postgraduate course page on October 26, 2026, and built this guide only around what they confirm. You will find a deadline conversion table for Pakistan, the US, and other regions, a realistic cost view, and the mistakes I would avoid. Anything RGU has not published is marked as unconfirmed instead of guessed.

Overview
Most scholarship calendars revolve around September, so students who begin in January often find fewer options. RGU’s answer is a small pool of four merit-based awards, each worth £5,000, applied as a reduction to tuition fees. It is a modest award, which is exactly why you should plan the rest of your budget before you apply.
When I compared this scholarship with the usual search results, I noticed that most pages stop at the headline value. What applicants actually need is the gap between “eligible” and “selected,” the real deadline condition, and a time-zone plan. This guide covers those gaps.
November 5, 2026. RGU has not stated a time zone or closing time. On the same date you must also have met your offer conditions, excluding the deposit. See the conversion table in the deadlines section.
On October 26, 2026, I read RGU’s official scholarship page and its January on-campus postgraduate course page. I also checked RGU’s international entry pages for the general English score. Where RGU was silent, I wrote “not published” instead of filling the gap.
Who Can Apply
This section covers eligibility only. Eligibility decides whether you may apply, while selection (covered next) decides who receives one of the four awards. RGU sets four tests: your country of residence, your course, your offer status, and your funding status.
Eligible Countries of Residence
RGU’s list is based on where you live, not on the passport you hold. If your country is not listed, RGU says you may still be eligible and asks you to contact its International Team. I grouped the 50 listed countries by region for easier reading, while RGU lists them alphabetically.
Asia and Pacific
Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Macau, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam
Middle East
Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates
Africa
Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
Americas
Canada, Mexico, USA
Europe
Norway, Russia, Ukraine
Eligible Courses
The course must be a taught postgraduate program that starts in January 2027, runs full time, and is delivered on campus. Research Master’s degrees are excluded. RGU lists the subject area as “All Subjects,” but only courses that actually run in the January intake count.
On October 26, 2026, RGU’s January on-campus postgraduate page grouped its courses under the headings below. Treat this as a snapshot and confirm your own course on that page.
Business and professional
Accounting & Finance; Business & Management; Communication, Media & Marketing; Events, Tourism & Hospitality; Fashion; Information Management; Law
Technology and energy
Computing; Energy; Engineering; Architecture, Construction & Surveying
Health and creative
Health & Sport Science; Nursing, Midwifery & Paramedic Practice; Art & Design
Check your award type. That course page also lists PgCert, PgDip, and LLM awards, plus a physiotherapy doctorate, next to the MSc and MA courses. The scholarship page says “taught postgraduate” and is titled for Master’s students, but it does not name each award type. If your course is not an MSc or MA, email the International Team before you rely on it.
Offer and Funding Status
RGU asks for four things from every applicant.
- Hold an offer for a postgraduate course at RGU that starts in January 2027.
- Meet all conditions of that offer, excluding the deposit, by November 5, 2026.
- Be a self-funded, international fee-paying student.
- Be willing to act as an ambassador to future students of the scholarship.
How Winners Are Selected
RGU calls the award merit-based and says discounts are given at the university’s discretion. That is all the official page says about selection. It does not publish a scoring method, a minimum grade, an interview stage, or a decision date.
What RGU Confirms
- Four awards are available.
- Selection is merit-based.
- The discount is awarded on enrollment.
- If you qualify for several RGU discounts, only the most beneficial one applies per offer.
What RGU Has Not Published
- The weight given to grades, work experience, or a personal statement
- The number of applicants in earlier rounds
- The date results are released
Because of these gaps, I will not claim a minimum GPA or a “winning profile.” Anyone who gives you one is guessing.
Funding and Benefits
The award is a £5,000 reduction in your tuition fees, applied when you enroll. It is not a cash stipend and it is not a full scholarship. RGU also limits it to self-funding students.
£5,000 fee discount
The amount is taken off your postgraduate tuition fees.
Four places
RGU offers four merit-based awards under this scheme.
Applied on enrollment
The discount is awarded when you enroll, at the university’s discretion.
One award per offer
You keep the single most beneficial award, not a combination.
This award reduces tuition only. The scholarship page does not mention housing, food, travel, visa costs, insurance, or books, so plan to pay for those yourself.
Required Documents
RGU’s scholarship page does not publish a separate document checklist. Your documents are tied to the admission offer, and the offer letter lists what you must provide. The cards below show what applicants usually keep ready, so you can match them against your own offer conditions.
Passport or ID
Keep a clear scan. The name must match your transcripts exactly.
Academic transcripts
Include every semester. Use the same name spelling throughout.
Degree certificate
Or proof of expected graduation, if your offer is conditional.
English proof
Only if your course requires it. Check the offer for the exact score.
CV and personal statement
Needed only if the course asks. Check length with our motivation letter word counter.
Offer letter
Keep it open while you work through every condition it lists.
Note: These items come from usual postgraduate admissions practice, not from RGU’s scholarship page. Your offer letter is the final authority on what RGU needs from you.
English Language Requirements
The scholarship page sets no English score of its own. The requirement comes from your course. RGU’s international entry pages say most postgraduate courses ask for an IELTS score of 6.5, with at least 5.5 in each area, and that some courses ask for more.
How to Check Your Score
- Open your course page and find its exact English requirement.
- Compare it with your IELTS result using our IELTS band score calculator.
- If your score falls short, ask RGU admissions about your options before November 5, 2026.
Scholarship portals and course rules change quickly. Even though I verified this guide on October 26, 2026, open the official RGU page again just before you apply and confirm the English requirement for your specific course.
Costs
The scholarship page does not state tuition fees, and I will not guess them. Look up your course fee on its page, subtract £5,000, and then add living costs. I also have not converted pounds to dollars or other currencies, because RGU quotes the award in pounds and exchange rates move daily.
| Cost item | Covered by this award? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition fees | Partly: £5,000 reduction | Pay the remaining balance yourself |
| Accommodation | Not mentioned | Budget separately |
| Food and daily living | Not mentioned | Budget separately |
| Transport and flights | Not mentioned | Budget separately |
| Visa and immigration costs | Not mentioned | Check current official fees |
| Insurance and healthcare | Not mentioned | Confirm what you need before travel |
| Books and study materials | Not mentioned | Budget separately |
Application Procedure
The flowchart below shows the route from checking eligibility to enrollment. Follow the steps in order, because the offer comes before the scholarship form.
Confirm your country of residence is on the list, your course is a full-time, on-campus taught postgraduate course, and you are self-funded.
You need an offer first. If you do not have one yet, ask RGU admissions right away whether your application can be processed in time, because the page does not say.
Clear every condition except the deposit by November 5, 2026.
Complete the form on RGU’s scholarship page and submit it once only. Log the date in our scholarship deadline tracker.
RGU has not published a results date. Use the International Team email if you need an update.
The discount is awarded when you enroll, at the university’s discretion.
Deadlines and Time Zones
RGU gives a date but no clock time or time zone. Since UK clocks returned to GMT on October 25, 2026, the UK is on GMT on November 5. The timeline shows the order of events, and the tables below show what that date means where you live.
Main Time Zone Conversion
I calculated these times myself because RGU has not published a closing time. The first column assumes the date begins at 12:00 AM UK time. The second assumes it ends at 11:59 PM UK time.
| Time zone | Date starts (12:00 AM UK) | Date ends (11:59 PM UK) |
|---|---|---|
| UK / GMT (UTC+0) | 12:00 AM, Nov 5 | 11:59 PM, Nov 5 |
| Pakistan, PKT (UTC+5) | 5:00 AM, Nov 5 | 4:59 AM, Nov 6 |
| US Eastern, ET (UTC-5) | 7:00 PM, Nov 4 | 6:59 PM, Nov 5 |
| US Pacific, PT (UTC-8) | 4:00 PM, Nov 4 | 3:59 PM, Nov 5 |
US clocks return to standard time on November 1, 2026, so ET and PT use UTC-5 and UTC-8 on these dates.
My safe-side rule: Treat the earlier column as your real deadline. That means submitting before 5:00 AM PKT, 7:00 PM ET, or 4:00 PM PT on the day it begins in your zone, as shown in the first column. Portals can slow down near closing time, so earlier is better.
Student Visa
The scholarship page does not discuss immigration, and a tuition discount does not change visa rules. Most overseas students who study in the UK need a Student visa, but whether you do depends on your nationality, so check the official GOV.UK guidance for your own passport.
What the Official Guidance Says
GOV.UK’s Student visa guidance says you need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) before you apply. It also says applicants outside the UK can apply up to six months before the course starts. I read these points in a web-archive copy of the GOV.UK page, so confirm them on the live page.
What to Prepare
- Your RGU offer and the CAS that RGU issues after you meet its requirements
- A valid passport
- Proof that you can pay tuition and living costs, as the current rules require
- English language evidence, if your route requires it
I have not listed visa fees or maintenance amounts, because they change. Take the current figures from GOV.UK and from RGU’s International Team.
For Pakistani Applicants
Pakistan is on RGU’s list of eligible countries of residence, so students who live in Pakistan can apply if they meet the other rules. The points below are the ones I would act on first.
Time and Deadline Planning
PKT is five hours ahead of GMT, so November 5 starts at 5:00 AM PKT and can end as late as 4:59 AM on November 6 if RGU closes at midnight UK time. I would submit on November 4 during daytime hours in Pakistan to avoid any confusion.
Documents and Grades
- Match your name spelling across your passport, transcripts, and degree.
- If your transcript uses percentages or a CGPA, convert it with our CGPA calculator so you can discuss it with admissions.
- RGU’s scholarship page does not mention degree attestation. Ask admissions before you pay for attestation, so you do not spend money on something that is not required.
Funding Status
The award is only for self-funded students. If a government program, employer, or another sponsor pays any of your fees, ask the International Team at international@rgu.ac.uk whether you still count as self-funded.
For US Applicants
The USA is on RGU’s eligible list, and the same offer, course, and deadline rules apply to US residents. Your main challenges are time zones and translating a US degree record into UK terms.
Time Zone Reality
If RGU counts the date from 12:00 AM UK time, the window opens at 7:00 PM ET and 4:00 PM PT on November 4. If it ends at 11:59 PM UK time, the cutoff is 6:59 PM ET and 3:59 PM PT on November 5. Submit before the earlier window to stay safe.
Grades and Funding
- RGU’s international pages note that a small number of postgraduate programs require an upper second-class degree or an equivalent. Check your course page rather than assuming your GPA converts.
- The award requires you to be self-funded. I did not verify whether US student loans count as self-funding, so ask RGU before you assume they do.
- Budget in pounds, and check a live exchange rate on the day you pay.
For Other International Applicants
The scholarship targets applicants from 50 listed countries and territories, including large student groups from India, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and the Gulf. Because RGU uses residence, a student living in a listed country can qualify even with a different passport. Start by finding your country of residence in the eligibility list above.
If Your Country Is Not Listed
RGU says unlisted countries may still be eligible. Email international@rgu.ac.uk with your country of residence, your course name, and your offer status, and keep the reply.
Deadline Conversion for Other Regions
These examples use the same two assumptions as the main table. Find your region, then plan around the earlier time.
| Region | Date starts (12:00 AM UK) | Date ends (11:59 PM UK) |
|---|---|---|
| India (UTC+5:30) | 5:30 AM, Nov 5 | 5:29 AM, Nov 6 |
| Bangladesh (UTC+6) | 6:00 AM, Nov 5 | 5:59 AM, Nov 6 |
| UAE (UTC+4) | 4:00 AM, Nov 5 | 3:59 AM, Nov 6 |
| Nigeria (UTC+1) | 1:00 AM, Nov 5 | 12:59 AM, Nov 6 |
Documents Not in English
If your transcripts are not in English, ask RGU which translation or certification it accepts before you order anything. The scholarship page does not cover this, and a wrong format can cost you time you do not have.
After You Receive an Offer
The scholarship is awarded on enrollment, so your job after the offer is to keep everything on track until then. RGU’s page excludes the deposit from the offer-condition deadline, which means you can clear conditions first and pay the deposit afterward.
- Save every email and letter from RGU in one folder.
- Follow the offer instructions for the deposit and any acceptance step.
- Start your visa preparation as soon as RGU issues your CAS.
- Remember the ambassador condition, since RGU lists it among the requirements.
Common Mistakes
- Calling it fully funded: It is a £5,000 tuition discount, so living costs remain yours.
- Using citizenship instead of residence: RGU’s list is based on country of residence.
- Missing the offer-condition deadline: The offer must be conditions-clear, excluding the deposit, by November 5, 2026.
- Choosing the wrong course mode: Part-time, online, and research courses do not qualify.
- Ignoring time zones: RGU has not stated one, so use the earlier time in the conversion tables.
- Submitting twice: The official page asks for one submission only.
Scam Warning Signs
Popular scholarships attract fake agents, especially when deadlines are close. These signs should make you stop.
- A fee to “process” the scholarship: The official page asks you to complete a form and mentions no payment.
- A guaranteed result: RGU says awards are merit-based and discretionary.
- An unofficial email address: RGU’s contact on its scholarship page uses the rgu.ac.uk domain.
- Pressure to send documents on messaging apps: Use official channels for passports and transcripts.
How to Apply Safely
Start from RGU’s own scholarship page and use the form linked there. If you want help, email the International Team directly and keep a copy of every reply.
Important: Never pay anyone to guarantee, speed up, or “reserve” this award. If a person claims to represent RGU, confirm it by emailing an rgu.ac.uk address you found on the official site.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the RGU International Student January Scholarship 2027?
It is a merit-based award from Robert Gordon University that gives eligible international students a £5,000 discount on tuition fees. It is for full-time, on-campus taught postgraduate courses that start in January 2027. RGU offers four of these awards.
What is the deadline for the RGU International Student January Scholarship 2027?
RGU lists the deadline as November 5, 2026, and has not published a time zone. By that date you need a postgraduate offer for January 2027 and must have met every offer condition except the deposit.
Is the RGU January scholarship fully funded?
No. It is a partial award that reduces tuition fees by £5,000. Accommodation, living costs, visa costs, and any remaining tuition are your responsibility.
Can Pakistani students apply for the RGU January scholarship?
Yes, if you live in Pakistan, which is on RGU’s list of eligible countries of residence, and you meet the other rules. You must also be a self-funded, international fee-paying student with a January 2027 offer.
Can US students apply for the RGU January scholarship?
Yes, if you live in the USA, which is on RGU’s list of eligible countries of residence. The same offer, course, funding, and deadline rules apply.
Do I need an offer before applying for the scholarship?
Yes. The official page says you must hold an offer for a postgraduate course starting in January 2027 and meet all of its conditions, apart from the deposit, by November 5, 2026.
Does the scholarship cover living costs?
No. RGU describes the award as a reduction in tuition fees, not a cash payment. Plan separately for housing, food, travel, insurance, and visa costs.
Is an IELTS score required for this scholarship?
The scholarship page does not set its own English score. Your course offer sets the English requirement, and RGU’s international pages say most postgraduate courses ask for IELTS 6.5 with at least 5.5 in each area, while some ask for more.
Final Words
Three actions matter most. Confirm your country of residence and course against RGU’s page, clear your offer conditions before November 5, 2026, and submit the form early using the earlier time-zone column. Then read the official page one more time before you press submit.
