Erasmus Mundus PlantHealth Scholarship 2027 funds a two-year Joint Master's in Plant Health in Sustainable Cropping Systems. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) scholarship covers 100% of participation costs, insurance, and mandatory academic costs, plus €1,400 per month for up to 24 months. The first-call deadline is December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM CET, which is 3:59 AM PKT on January 1, 2027.
This programme is for graduates in agronomy, agricultural sciences, and related fields who want to work on crop protection and sustainable farming. It is open to applicants worldwide, EU and non-EU alike. Only the first call, which runs from October 1 to December 31, 2026, can lead to an EMJM scholarship.
I read seven official PlantHealth and Universitat Politรจcnica de Valรจncia (UPV) pages on October 24, 2026, then rebuilt the information into a single guide. You will find a time zone table, a document checklist, and separate sections for Pakistani, US, and other international applicants. Where two official pages disagree, I show both versions and tell you what to do.

Overview
PlantHealth is a joint Master's programme run by five European universities. Students study plant health and sustainable cropping systems, spend time at more than one partner institution, and finish with a double diploma. The coordinating secretariat sits at UPV in Valencia, Spain.
Teaching is in English, except for some second-year courses in France. Students who spend the second year in France also receive French language support, including a two-month intensive course.
Partner universities
- Universitat Politรจcnica de Valรจncia, Spain
- Universitร di Padova, Italy
- University of Gรถttingen, Germany
- AgroParisTech, France
- L'Institut Agro, France
How your study route is decided
You state a preferred mobility scheme in the application form. The PlantHealth Board then assigns an academic pathway, and it looks at an even spread of students across partners and at your academic profile. Your first choice is therefore not guaranteed.
I compared the UPV admission page, the PlantHealth application, calendar, selection, financial support and FAQ pages, and the October 6, 2026 programme news post. I did not test the application portal myself, and I have not applied to this programme. Everything below is analysis of those pages, not a personal application story.
Who Can Apply
This section covers eligibility only. How the committee ranks eligible applicants is a separate topic, covered in the next section.
Academic requirements
- A Bachelor of Science degree worth 180 ECTS, usually a three-year full-time degree, in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences or a related field.
- At least 4 ECTS in Plant Health or Crop Protection, or an equivalent.
- Proof of English at CEFR level B2, unless English is your native language.
- A complete application with two reference letters on the official PlantHealth template.
If your background is outside agriculture, the FAQ says the team reviews your official transcript to confirm you have the required scientific base. Treat that as a transcript check, not as a promise that a different degree will be accepted.
Eligible nationalities
The programme recruits from all over the world, and the EMJM scholarship is open to EU and non-EU students. The official pages do not publish a country-by-country list, so no nationality is excluded by name.
Final-year Bachelor's students
You can apply before you graduate. Answer "YES" to the first eligibility question, upload a university certificate that states you are in your final year, and upload your latest transcript. If you are selected, you must finish the degree before the programme starts, or the selection is cancelled.
Who cannot receive the EMJM scholarship
You cannot apply for an EMJM scholarship if you have already received one. You also cannot hold other EU grants at the same time as an EMJM scholarship.
How Winners Are Selected
Selection is based on academic merit. The official weighting is shown below.
| Evaluation criterion | Weight | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Academic record and merits | 60% | Your GPA, plus training, internships, awards and sector experience |
| Reference letters | 20% | Letters from professors or employers who know your work |
| Personal motivation | 20% | A statement of purpose of up to 1,000 characters, spaces included |
Because 60% of the score comes from your record, a clear transcript and a short list of relevant activities matter more than a long essay. The motivation box is small, so every sentence has to carry weight.
How scholarships are shared out
The programme says 80% of the scholarships go to the best-evaluated candidates, spread evenly across world regions whenever quality is guaranteed. The other 20% go to high-scoring applicants with greater vulnerability, such as refugees, applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds, applicants with special needs, or low-income applicants. Unused places in that 20% are reallocated to regular applicants. The programme also states that gender balance is considered.
Results and appeals
The lists of accepted candidates and EMJM awardees are expected at the end of February 2027. Being accepted does not automatically mean you hold a scholarship, because the awardee list is published separately. Appeals are accepted only on procedural grounds, such as a correctly uploaded document that was reported missing. The committee does not re-score the academic assessment.
Funding and Benefits
100% of participation costs
Tuition and the other fees the programme charges all students are covered.
Health and accident cover
Comprehensive insurance is included for the full two years.
€1,400 per month
Paid for up to 24 months of the programme.
Other funding
Special needs support and paid thesis internships may be available.
Read this before you budget: the official pages say the €1,400 stipend is meant to cover travel, visa, installation and living costs together. I found no separate travel grant for EMJM scholars, so plan your flights and visa fees from the stipend.
PlantHealth Consortium scholarships
Outstanding applicants may receive a fee waiver. These awards do not cover travel, accommodation or living expenses, and they can be combined with other funding. Only first-call applicants are considered, and they should not be confused with the fully funded EMJM scholarship.
Other funding named by the programme
- Special needs funding from the European Commission, which you must request before the programme begins.
- An Erasmus+ mobility grant for self-funded students in year two. The financial support page says about €350 per month plus about €300 for travel, while the admission page says about €300 per month. Check the current figure before you rely on it.
- University of Padua regional and joint-programme scholarships for students who spend year two there.
- Paid company internships during the Master's thesis, which are common in France and Germany.
Required Documents
Upload everything through the online form. Documents sent by post or email at the application stage are not accepted. Each upload box takes one PDF of up to 1 MB, so merge related pages into a single PDF and compress it first. My PDF compressor can help you reduce the file size.
Curriculum vitae
Any professional format is accepted. The Europass format is recommended.
Degree certificate
An official copy with a seal or security feature. Add any Master's or PhD certificates you hold.
Transcript of records
The complete transcript for each degree, issued by your university.
English evidence
An accepted test certificate, or a letter confirming English-medium study.
Two recommendation letters
Official template, letterhead, contact details, signature and stamp.
Declaration on honour
The template is in the Documents Upload section of the form.
Extra documents
Publications, proof of refugee status, or proof of socio-economic vulnerability.
Recommendation letter checklist
- Use the official PlantHealth recommendation template from the portal.
- Print on the organization's letterhead, with its name, logo and physical address.
- Include the referee's institutional email address and a professional phone number.
- Add the referee's signature and the official seal or stamp.
Documents you do not need yet
Proof of residence is requested only from selected students, and it must have been issued within the last 12 months. Legalized copies and sworn translations are also not required at the application stage. Do not spend money on them until you are pre-accepted.
English Language Requirements
You need CEFR level B2. The accepted evidence includes IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge English qualifications, Trinity ISE, ESOL, the Oxford Test of English and the Pearson Test of English.
Duolingo tests, TOEIC, free online courses, and certificates issued by universities or private language schools are not accepted. The FAQ says the programme takes only internationally recognized English tests.
If your Bachelor's degree was taught fully in English, a letter from your university stating that English was the medium of instruction is accepted instead. The programme still says a test certificate strengthens the application. The official pages I read do not publish a minimum score per test, so confirm any score question with the secretariat before you book an exam. You can estimate your band with the IELTS band score calculator.
Costs
The table below shows the participation costs that apply to students who do not hold an EMJM scholarship. An EMJM awardee does not pay these costs, because the scholarship covers 100% of them.
| Student profile | Total cost | First payment (before the programme) | Second payment (May of the following year) |
|---|---|---|---|
| EU, EEA or Switzerland | €9,000 | €4,500 | €4,500 |
| Rest of the world | €10,000 | €5,000 | €5,000 |
The fees include enrolment, insurance, e-learning, a field trip in year one, the final conference, orientation with three nights of accommodation, and advice on residence permits. The programme says these amounts may change in future editions. I have not converted them into dollars or rupees, because exchange rates change daily. Use a live converter on the day you plan your budget.
Application Procedure
The flowchart shows the full route. Follow the numbered steps below it in the same order.
Confirm a 180 ECTS Bachelor's in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences or a related field, with at least 4 ECTS in Plant Health or Crop Protection. Work out your CGPA with the CGPA calculator so you know where your record stands.
Book an accepted test, or ask your university for an English-medium letter if your whole Bachelor's was taught in English.
Download the official template from the portal, send it to two referees, and give them time to sign and stamp it.
Scan the CV, certificates, transcripts, English evidence and declaration. Keep each upload at or below 1 MB.
Register with a username, password and email address, then complete the form in English. Write your statement of purpose and check its length with the motivation letter word counter, keeping it within 1,000 characters.
Submit in the first call, which closes before January 1, 2027, 12:00 AM CET. A submitted application cannot be edited. If you need to fix something, create a new account and submit again, and the system will use your most recent application.
The accepted list and the awardee list are expected at the end of February 2027. Watch your email and the official PlantHealth website.
If you are selected, follow the consortium's instructions on legalization, translations, proof of residence and your residence permit.
The application procedure page says you receive an automatic email after you submit. The FAQ says the system does not always send one. Do not treat a missing email as proof that the form failed or succeeded. Take a screenshot of the final screen, and write to the secretariat if you are unsure.
Deadlines and Time Zones
First call closes December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM CET. The official calendar words it as "before January 1, 12:00 AM CET", and that is the same moment.
The programme start is described as the end of August on the FAQ page and as September on the admission page, so I show it as a range. Final-year students must finish their degree before that date.
Deadline conversion table
| Time zone | Local time | Date |
|---|---|---|
| CET (official) | 11:59 PM | December 31, 2026 |
| GMT | 10:59 PM | December 31, 2026 |
| ET (New York) | 5:59 PM | December 31, 2026 |
| PT (Los Angeles) | 2:59 PM | December 31, 2026 |
| PKT (Pakistan) | 3:59 AM | January 1, 2027 |
These conversions use winter standard time for each zone. The two official pages I read worded the closing moment slightly differently, and one news post lists it as "31 December 2026 (00:00 CET)". To stay safe, finish your submission by December 29, 2026, and add the date to my scholarship deadline tracker so you get a clear reminder.
Residence Permit or Visa
The official pages I read do not publish visa steps, processing times or consulate requirements, so I will not guess them. What they do confirm is that the programme fee package includes advisory services for residence permit procedures, and that the EMJM stipend is meant to help with visa and installation costs.
Your visa country depends on where your first study period is assigned, which the PlantHealth Board decides. Once you receive your pathway, ask the host university for its visa checklist and contact the embassy or consulate of that country. Do not book flights before your permit route is clear.
For Pakistani Applicants
Pakistani applicants are a large share of my readers, so this section deals with the points that usually cause trouble at home.
Check your degree length first
The programme asks for 180 ECTS, which is usually a three-year degree. A four-year BS in agriculture should clearly be long enough, but an older two-year BSc may raise questions. Ask the secretariat about your specific degree before you spend time on the form, and use the CGPA calculator for your grade summary.
Do not pay for attestation yet
At application stage, your degree and transcript need an official seal or security feature from your university, but they do not need to be legalized or apostilled. If you are selected, the programme may ask for legalized copies. In Pakistan that usually means Higher Education Commission (HEC) attestation followed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs authentication. That sequence is my general knowledge, not something the PlantHealth pages state, so wait for the consortium's instructions.
Plan for the 3:59 AM PKT deadline
The portal closes at 3:59 AM PKT on January 1, 2027. Power cuts and weak internet are real risks on a deadline night, so submit during daytime hours at least two or three days early. Keep a spare connection ready, such as a mobile hotspot.
English evidence for Pakistani graduates
If your whole Bachelor's was taught in English, ask your registrar for a medium of instruction letter. If you take a test, choose IELTS, TOEFL iBT or another accepted exam. Duolingo and certificates from local language academies are not accepted.
Referee letters and stamps
Professors in Pakistan often need a week or more to sign and stamp a letter, and the stamp, letterhead, and signature are all mandatory. Send the official template at least three weeks before the deadline, along with your CV and a short summary of your work.
Funding choices for Pakistani students
The consortium's funding page lists the Aga Khan Foundation scholarships among options for applicants from Pakistan, besides several other countries. Apply for outside funding early, because deadlines for those schemes differ from the PlantHealth call.
For US Applicants
American applicants rarely need an English test, but they have their own paperwork questions. Here is what I would check.
Match your degree to 180 ECTS
US Bachelor's degrees normally last four years, which should be at least as long as the 180 ECTS requirement. I found no official US credit conversion table, so email the secretariat if you want written confirmation. Name the courses you took in plant pathology, entomology, weed science, integrated pest management or crop production, because the programme needs at least 4 ECTS in Plant Health or Crop Protection or an equivalent.
English and transcripts
Native English speakers are exempt from the test. If English is not your first language, a letter from your US university confirming English as the language of instruction is accepted. Upload an official transcript with a seal or security feature, and include your GPA, since the committee reads it as part of the 60% academic score.
Deadline in US time
The deadline is 5:59 PM ET or 2:59 PM PT on December 31, 2026. That falls in the winter holiday period, when many professors are away. Ask your referees in early November so the signed and stamped letters are not delayed.
Costs and funding for Americans
If you do not win an EMJM scholarship and choose to self-fund, you fall under the rest-of-the-world cost of €10,000. The consortium's funding page lists the Fulbright Program and the Fund for Education Abroad as options for US applicants. Compare those deadlines with the PlantHealth call before you decide.
Entering Europe as a US citizen
A two-year Master's means a long stay, so plan for a residence permit or long-stay visa rather than a short tourist visit. The rules depend on the country of your first study period, so confirm them with that country's consulate.
For Other International Applicants
This section is for applicants from India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Indonesia, Brazil and anywhere else outside Pakistan and the United States.
Regional distribution of scholarships
The programme says 80% of the scholarships go to the best-ranked applicants, spread across regions whenever quality is guaranteed. My reading is that you compete with strong candidates worldwide, and regional balance can matter at the margins. That is analysis, not an official promise, so apply as if only your file counts.
Priority regions and vulnerable applicants
The financial support page says extra scholarships are often reserved for students from specific priority regions. Read the call details carefully for your country. If you are a refugee, have special needs, or come from a low-income background, the 20% vulnerable-applicant allocation may apply to you. For socio-economic claims, the FAQ lists income certificates, tax returns, bank statements, and proof of social benefits, covering the most recent financial year and with a certified English translation.
Outside funding by region
The consortium names national and regional schemes on its funding page. Examples include Charpak and Inlaks for India, LPDP for Indonesia, DOST-SEI for the Philippines, the Aga Khan Foundation for several countries in South Asia and East Africa, and Mastercard Foundation Scholars for Africa. Check each scheme's own rules, since they have separate deadlines.
Documents in other languages
The form and all attachments must be in English unless a document says otherwise. If your transcript is in another language, include an English translation or an official English version. Ask the secretariat what form of translation they accept at the application stage, because the official pages ask for sworn translations only after pre-acceptance.
EU and EEA applicants
EU nationals can also apply for the EMJM scholarship. If you self-fund, the participation cost for EU, EEA and Swiss students is €9,000.
After You Receive an Offer
- Pre-acceptance is conditional on meeting each partner university's enrolment rules.
- You may then need legalized copies of your degree and transcript, and sworn translations. The programme says it will explain the requirements well in advance.
- Selected students submit proof of residence issued within the last 12 months.
- Self-funded students pay the first instalment to reserve a seat before the programme starts.
- Special needs funding must be requested before the programme begins.
- Final-year Bachelor's students must complete the degree on time, or the selection is cancelled.
Read your scholarship agreement carefully, and keep copies of every award letter and email.
Common Mistakes
- Using a certificate that is not accepted: Duolingo, TOEIC, and school-issued certificates do not count.
- Weak reference letters: a letter without the official template, letterhead, signature, or stamp can leave the file incomplete.
- Missing the 4 ECTS evidence: list your plant health or crop protection courses clearly.
- Oversized files: uploads above 1 MB fail, so compress and merge them before you start.
- Applying in the second round for funding: the second round has no Erasmus Mundus scholarships.
- Assuming you can edit later: a submitted form is final, so proofread it before you press submit.
- Waiting for the last night: time zone confusion and portal traffic are avoidable risks.
- Paying for translations too early: sworn translations and legalization are needed only after pre-acceptance.
- Overrunning the motivation box: the statement is limited to 1,000 characters including spaces.
Scam Warning Signs
- Someone promises a guaranteed scholarship or guaranteed visa.
- An agent asks for money to "reserve" an Erasmus Mundus scholarship place.
- You are asked to email documents instead of using the official portal.
- The contact uses a free email address instead of an official university domain.
- You are pressured to pay quickly or share your passport or bank details.
How to Apply Safely
Use only the official portal at planthealth.upv.es, and write only to planthealth@upv.es if you have a question. The programme says documents sent outside the online system are not considered, so no agent can submit a better file for you.
The fees in the Costs section apply to self-funded students after admission, and they follow the programme's own payment instructions. They are never a reason to pay a third party at application stage. For help with my own tools and guides, you can read the About Us page or the disclaimer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Erasmus Mundus PlantHealth Scholarship fully funded?
The EMJM scholarship covers 100% of participation costs, insurance and mandatory academic costs, plus €1,400 per month for up to 24 months. The stipend must also cover travel, visa, installation and living costs. The separate Consortium scholarships only waive fees.
What is the Erasmus Mundus PlantHealth deadline for 2027?
The first call closes on December 31, 2026, at 11:59 PM CET. That is 3:59 AM PKT on January 1, 2027, 5:59 PM ET and 2:59 PM PT on December 31, 2026.
Can Pakistani students apply for the PlantHealth scholarship?
Yes. The programme is open to applicants from all countries. Pakistani applicants need a 180 ECTS Bachelor's in agronomy, agricultural sciences or a related field, at least 4 ECTS in plant health or crop protection, and B2 English.
Can US citizens apply for the PlantHealth scholarship?
Yes. The EMJM scholarship is open to EU and non-EU students, so US citizens can apply. Native English speakers do not need an English test, and a US university can provide a medium of instruction letter if needed.
Is IELTS compulsory for the PlantHealth Master's?
No. You need proof of B2 English, but it can be a letter from your university confirming that your whole Bachelor's was taught in English. A test certificate such as IELTS or TOEFL iBT still strengthens the application.
How many recommendation letters does PlantHealth require?
You need two letters on the official PlantHealth template. Each must include the referee's contact details, a signature, and the official stamp of the institution or company.
Can I get an Erasmus Mundus scholarship in the second round?
No. Only first-call applicants can receive Erasmus Mundus or PlantHealth Consortium scholarships. The second round, from May 20 to June 15, 2027, is for self-funded applicants.
Do I need attested documents before I apply to PlantHealth?
No. At application stage your degree and transcript need an official seal or security feature, but legalization and sworn translations are requested only after pre-acceptance.
Final Words
Three things matter most. First, confirm that your degree, your 4 ECTS in plant health or crop protection, and your English evidence all fit the official rules. Second, give your referees and your own documents plenty of time. Third, submit well before December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM CET, and keep proof that you did.
I will update this post and its verification date if the programme changes any detail. If you spot a mismatch with the official site, tell me through the contact page. You can also leave a question in the comments.
