The Nanjing Forestry University Silk Road Scholarship 2027 is not open for student applications yet. NJFU has only asked its own colleges to propose 2027/28 projects, and it has announced no student deadline. The last cycle covered master’s and PhD study with tuition, housing, and a CNY 3,000–3,500 monthly stipend for applicants from ten listed countries.
If you’re planning around the Nanjing Forestry University Silk Road Scholarship 2027, the smart move right now is preparation, not submission. The 2026/27 notice is dated April 30, and its deadline was May 20, 2026, a 20-day window. Notarized records take time, so starting after the notice appears can leave you short. This guide separates what NJFU has confirmed from what it hasn’t.

No student deadline has been announced for 2027/28. The dates in NJFU’s October 2026 notice are internal: November 13, 2026 at 17:00 for college proposals, and March 8, 2027 at 17:00 for NJFU’s package to the China Scholarship Council (CSC). The notice doesn’t name a time zone. Beijing time is my assumption. The 2026/27 student deadline, May 20, 2026, has passed.

1. Is the Nanjing Forestry University Silk Road Scholarship 2027 Open Yet?
Not yet. On October 16, 2026, NJFU’s College of International Education told its own colleges to submit 2027/28 Silk Road project proposals by November 13, 2026. That is an internal step. Students can’t apply until the university publishes a student notice with majors, countries, and a deadline.
The October notice is in Chinese, so this summary is my translation. Each college project may name up to five majors and ten source countries. NJFU can forward only one project to the CSC, and the package is due March 8, 2027 at 17:00. The council then reviews it in writing and by defense, and the Ministry of Education sets the final projects and places. A student call can’t be written before that is settled. That is my reading, not an official statement.

2. What Is the NJFU Silk Road Scholarship?
It’s a Chinese Government Scholarship track for students from Belt and Road countries. At NJFU it runs as Type B with school code 10298, covering full-time master’s and doctoral study. The 2026/27 version centered on green materials and intelligent construction, according to the official notice.
The theme matters because Silk Road awards are project-based. A college designs a program around a few majors and a short country list, then recruits only for that. If your major or passport isn’t on the list, strong grades won’t change the outcome. The October 2026 call names national priorities such as green development, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, energy, taxation, finance, disaster reduction, and teacher training (my translation). NJFU hasn’t said which of these its 2027/28 project will target.
3. Which Nationalities Can Apply? (Eligible Nationalities)
Under the 2026/27 notice, only citizens of ten countries could apply: Pakistan, Ghana, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Laos, Thailand, and Russia. NJFU hasn’t yet published the 2027/28 country list, so treat this one as last year’s pattern, not a promise.

Official wording: “Only applicants from the above-listed source countries and the specified majors are eligible…” NJFU, 2026/27 Silk Road notice
International Applicant Guidance
Coming from a Belt and Road country isn’t the test here. Being on the college’s list is. Last cycle you also needed citizenship outside China, a valid ID certificate, and no other scholarship granted for the same academic year. Two things can change between cycles: the country list and the majors. Check both before you spend money on notarization.
For U.S. Applicants
The United States wasn’t on the 2026/27 country list, so a U.S. passport holder couldn’t have applied to the Silk Road track last cycle. Watch the 2027/28 student notice in case the list changes. Meanwhile, the High-Level Postgraduate notice requires only citizenship outside China and lists no country limit. The notice also asks for a criminal record certificate from the “local public security authority” and doesn’t name a U.S. document, so ask the Admission Office what it will accept.
For Pakistani Applicants
Pakistan was on the 2026/27 list, which makes preparation worthwhile. Three points are specific to you. First, the notice requires “notarized” degrees and transcripts but doesn’t say whether HEC-attested copies count, so ask before you pay for either. Second, English-taught applicants could submit IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, Duolingo 100, or proof that a previous degree was taught in English. The notice doesn’t define that proof, so ask whether a medium-of-instruction certificate qualifies. Third, Beijing is three hours ahead of Pakistan, so 17:00 in Nanjing is 14:00 PKT. Use the IELTS band score calculator to check your sub-scores, and read our CSC scholarship application guide for the national process.
4. Who Meets the Eligibility Rules?
To qualify under the 2026/27 rules, you needed non-Chinese citizenship, a bachelor’s degree for a master’s or a master’s for a PhD, strong grades in a related major, and the right language score. Age caps were 35 for master’s and 40 for PhD, and you couldn’t hold another 2026/27 scholarship.
Eligibility decision table (2026/27 rules).
| Check | You’re in range if… | You’re out if… |
|---|---|---|
| Citizenship | You hold citizenship of one of the ten listed countries | You’re a Chinese citizen or from an unlisted country |
| Degree | Bachelor’s (for master’s) or master’s (for PhD) in a related major | Your degree is unrelated to the major |
| Age | 35 or younger (master’s), 40 or younger (PhD) when applying | You’re over the cap |
| Chinese-taught | HSK 4 score of 200 or more, no sub-score under 60 | You’re below either threshold |
| English-taught | IELTS 6.0 (no sub-score under 6), TOEFL 80, Duolingo 100, or proof of an English-taught degree; native speakers exempt | You have no qualifying proof |
| Other awards | No other scholarship granted for that year | Another award is already granted |
| Health | Good mental and physical health, with a complete physical exam form | The exam form is incomplete or unsealed |
5. Which Subjects Are Available? (Available Subjects)
The 2026/27 Silk Road project offered four majors: Mechanical Engineering (master’s and PhD), Materials Science and Engineering (master’s), Civil Engineering (PhD), and Computer Science and Technology (master’s). All four were listed as Chinese or English taught.
| Code | Major | Master’s | PhD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 080200 | Mechanical Engineering | Yes | Yes |
| 080500 | Materials Science and Engineering | Yes | No |
| 081400 | Civil Engineering | No | Yes |
| 081200 | Computer Science and Technology | Yes | No |
Look at the gaps. There was no PhD in Materials or Computer Science and no master’s in Civil Engineering. A strong applicant in the wrong level-and-major pair had no route. The 2027/28 majors will differ if NJFU picks a new project theme. The much longer list in the High-Level notice belongs to a different program (see section 10).
6. What Does the Nanjing Forestry University Silk Road Scholarship 2027 Pay For?
The 2026/27 notice promised four things: a tuition waiver, free on-campus housing, a monthly stipend of CNY 3,000 for master’s students or CNY 3,500 for PhD students, and CNY 800 a year in medical insurance. International flights weren’t included. NJFU hasn’t published 2027/28 Silk Road terms, so confirm these in the new notice.
| Benefit | Master’s | PhD |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | Waived | Waived |
| On-campus accommodation fee | Waived | Waived |
| Monthly stipend | CNY 3,000 | CNY 3,500 |
| Medical insurance | CNY 800 per year | CNY 800 per year |
| International travel | Not covered | Not covered |
What the Package Is Worth in a Year
The scholarship’s paper value is bigger than the cash you receive. Only the stipend reaches your pocket. The table below adds NJFU’s listed tuition (fee page), a 12-month stipend, a single dorm room at CNY 450–540 a month, and the CNY 800 insurance. Two assumptions are mine: that the stipend is paid for twelve months, and that you’d live in a single room.
| Component (CNY per year) | Master’s | PhD |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition waived | 27,000 | 31,000 |
| Stipend (12 × monthly rate) | 36,000 | 42,000 |
| Single dorm room (waived) | 5,400–6,480 | 5,400–6,480 |
| Medical insurance | 800 | 800 |
| Estimated package value | 69,200–70,280 | 79,200–80,280 |
Costs the Scholarship Doesn’t Cover
Budget for these out of pocket. The first three are confirmed as not covered or as applicant costs; the rest the notices leave unclear.
- International travel (the notice says students pay it).
- The CNY 400 application fee, which is non-refundable.
- Notarization, translations, the physical exam, and the police certificate.
- A CNY 538 medical check-up after registration and a CNY 400 residence permit, both on the fee page. The scholarship notice doesn’t say who pays.
- Dorm electricity at CNY 0.52 per kWh, also listed on the fee page.
7. Working Hours and Payment: What Do the Notices Say?
The notices set a monthly stipend of CNY 3,000 for master’s and CNY 3,500 for PhD students. They don’t state a work requirement, weekly hours, a payment date, or how many months the stipend runs. Anything beyond that is unconfirmed.
That leaves three open questions to settle in writing before you accept an offer. When does the first payment arrive after registration? Is the stipend paid during summer and winter breaks? And is any teaching or lab duty expected? I found no NJFU statement on part-time paid work in the pages I reviewed. Check the university’s international student rules and your residence permit terms before you take any paid job. Your supervisor, not the scholarship notice, will usually set research expectations.
8. Which Documents Do You Need? (Required Documents)
Last cycle’s list had eleven items, including notarized degrees and transcripts, a study plan, two professor recommendations, a supervisor’s signed acceptance letter, a language certificate, a police certificate, and a physical exam form. Expect a similar list in 2027/28, but confirm it against the new notice.
Required documents, 2026/27 Silk Road notice.
| Document | What the notice required |
|---|---|
| Application form | Chinese Government Scholarship form, filled in online |
| Highest degree or diploma | Notarized. Final-year students submit proof of student status. Other languages need notarized Chinese or English translations. |
| Academic transcripts | Notarized, from the undergraduate program onward, sealed by the school’s academic office. Non-English records need notarized English translations. |
| Study plan | At least 1,000 characters or words (master’s) or 1,200 (PhD). A PhD plan needs your Chinese supervisor’s signature. |
| Recommendation letters | Two, from professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English |
| Supervisor acceptance letter | Signed and approved by the NJFU supervisor, or it’s invalid |
| Language certificate | Clear scan of HSK 4 or higher, IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, or other English proof |
| Non-criminal record report | From the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months before submission |
| Physical examination form | Foreigner Physical Examination Form, complete, stamped, with photo; valid 6 months |
| Passport information page | Valid for more than 12 months. Applicants under 18 need guardian documents in China. |
| Other items | CV, publications, awards, personal work (optional) |
Validity Windows That Can Sink an Application
Two documents expire quickly. The physical exam result is valid for six months, and the police certificate is usually issued within six months before you submit. Get them too early and they may lapse before NJFU reviews your file. Get them too late and you miss the window. The sensible time is soon after the student notice appears.
The notices also differ from each other. The 2026/27 Silk Road notice asked for a study plan of 1,000 or 1,200 words or characters. The 2027/28 High-Level notice asks for at least 3,000. Its passport rule is also different: the passport must not expire on or before September 2027. Don’t assume the 2027/28 Silk Road notice will copy either one. Compress scanned files with our PDF compressor if the upload system limits file size.
9. How Does the Application Procedure Work? (Application Procedure)
Nothing in the 2027/28 notice describes a student procedure for the Nanjing Forestry University Silk Road Scholarship 2027, so the steps below follow the 2026/27 procedure. Seven steps took an applicant from choosing a major to downloading the admission notice. Confirm the order in the new notice, because the High-Level route uses a different sequence.
Match your degree and research interest to a major on the project list.
The supervisor must sign and approve it, or it’s invalid.
Log in to the CSC system with Type B and school code 10298, then upload your documents.
Upload the payment receipt. Include your name, application number, and passport number on the bank note.
NJFU runs an initial document review, then an academic review by the college.
NJFU posts it on the College of International Education website.
Successful applicants get the notice and related documents through the CSC system.
Two Systems, Two Logins
You deal with two separate systems: the CSC portal at campuschina.org and NJFU’s own application system at njfu.17gz.org. In the 2026/27 Silk Road procedure you filled in the CSC form first. In the 2027/28 High-Level procedure, NJFU notifies qualified applicants, who then complete the CSC form. Keep one email address for both and check it often. NJFU warns that missed replies are the applicant’s responsibility.
The CNY 400 Application Fee
NJFU charges CNY 400 per applicant, or USD 60 if you pay from abroad. The fee page states: “Application fee is non-refundable.” NJFU Fees & Payment page. Pay only after the online system sends a payment notice, then upload the scanned receipt. Copy the bank details from the official page, not from a forwarded message.
10. Silk Road or High-Level Postgraduate: Which Route Fits?
The Silk Road track is narrow and closed for now. The High-Level Postgraduate program is broader and open now, with a February 21, 2027 deadline. If your country or major wasn’t on last year’s Silk Road list, the High-Level route may be your realistic option.
| Feature | Silk Road (2026/27 notice) | High-Level Postgraduate (2027/28) |
|---|---|---|
| Student call | Closed; 2027/28 call not published | Open; deadline February 21, 2027 |
| Countries | Ten listed | No list; any non-Chinese citizen |
| Majors | Four | Many, across NJFU’s colleges |
| Study plan | 1,000 (master’s) or 1,200 (PhD) minimum | 3,000 minimum for both |
| Housing | On-campus fee waived | Free dorm, or CNY 700 (master’s) or 1,000 (PhD) monthly off-campus subsidy |
| Stipend | CNY 3,000 / 3,500 | CNY 3,000 / 3,500 |
| English test | IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, Duolingo 100, or proof of English-taught degree | IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, or proof of English-taught degree |
| Passport | Valid for more than 12 months | Not expiring on or before September 2027 |
| Order | CSC form, then NJFU system | NJFU system first; CSC form after NJFU notifies you |
The High-Level Route Opens First
NJFU’s October 15 guide sets the deadline in plain terms. It requires the online application “before February 21, 2027.” Funding matches the Silk Road stipend and adds an off-campus housing subsidy. It is a different program with its own rules, so don’t mix the two when you prepare documents. The 2026/27 Silk Road rule barred holders of another scholarship for the same year. Whether you may apply to both routes at once isn’t stated, so ask the Admission Office first.
11. How Does Selection Work?
NJFU reviews documents first, then colleges review academic merit, and NJFU posts a final list online. The notice doesn’t publish scoring criteria, applicant numbers, or an acceptance rate, so any “chance of winning” figure you see elsewhere isn’t official.
The 2026/27 rhythm gives you a planning clue. The deadline was May 20, a pre-admission list appeared on June 2 (13 days later), and the admission list appeared on July 6 (47 days after the deadline). Treat that as one cycle’s pattern, not a schedule.
12. What Should You Prepare Now?
Prepare what doesn’t expire, and hold back what does. Work on the study plan, recommenders, language score, and supervisor contact now. Wait to get the physical exam and police certificate until the student notice appears.
- Language score: Book HSK 4 or IELTS now if you don’t have a result. Scores take weeks to arrive.
- Degree and transcripts: Ask your university how notarization works and how long it takes.
- Passport: Check its expiration date against both the 12-month rule and the September 2027 rule.
- Study plan: Draft a plan long enough for the larger 3,000-word standard. You can trim it. Our motivation letter guide covers structure.
- Recommenders: Line up two professors or associate professors.
- Reminder: Add the student notice to the scholarship deadline tracker once NJFU publishes a date.
How to Approach a Supervisor
The procedure tells you to find a supervisor, and the supervisor’s signed letter is a required document. Browse the NJFU supervisors page and shortlist people whose work matches your major. Write a short, specific email: your degree and grades, the paper or project of theirs you’ve read, your proposed topic, and your CV. Skip mass emails. Ask whether they’re taking Silk Road students for the project. This is practical advice, not an NJFU rule.
13. Common Mistakes and Misconceptions
- Reading internal dates as student deadlines. November 13, 2026 and March 8, 2027 are for colleges and NJFU, not applicants.
- Treating a third-party “round has begun” post as the notice. The official October notice is addressed to NJFU’s colleges.
- Using 2026/27 rules as 2027/28 rules. Duolingo, study-plan length, and passport validity already differ between two NJFU notices.
- Mixing up NJFU’s awards. Silk Road, High-Level Postgraduate, APFNet, and the Nanjing Municipal Government scholarship each have their own rules.
- Counting the package as cash. Only the stipend is paid to you.
- Letting the exam or police certificate expire. Both lapse after about six months.
14. Verification Note
On November 3, 2026, for the Nanjing Forestry University Silk Road Scholarship 2027, I read NJFU’s English and Chinese notices, its fee page, and its High-Level guide. I didn’t contact NJFU or the CSC, and I didn’t test either application portal. Four discrepancies matter:
- No student deadline exists yet for 2027/28 Silk Road.
- Medical insurance appears as CNY 800 in the scholarship notices and CNY 600 on the fee page.
- Study-plan length and passport validity differ between the Silk Road and High-Level notices.
- The notices don’t state a time zone for their dates.
The controlling pages are the official NJFU notices listed below.
15. FAQ
Is the Nanjing Forestry University Silk Road Scholarship 2027 open for applications?
No. As of November 3, 2026, NJFU has only asked its own colleges to submit 2027/28 Silk Road project proposals, due November 13, 2026. The notice doesn’t invite students to apply. Watch the College of International Education website for a student notice that lists majors, eligible countries, and a deadline.
What is the application deadline?
There is no student deadline yet. The dates in the October 2026 notice are internal: college proposals are due November 13, 2026 at 17:00, and NJFU’s package is due at the China Scholarship Council by March 8, 2027 at 17:00. The 2026/27 student deadline, now closed, was May 20, 2026.
Which countries can apply?
The 2026/27 notice listed ten: Pakistan, Ghana, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Laos, Thailand, and Russia. NJFU hasn’t published the 2027/28 list. Each Silk Road project can name no more than ten source countries, so the list may change. Check the student notice before you submit anything.
Which subjects can I study?
Last cycle offered four: Mechanical Engineering for master’s and PhD, Materials Science and Engineering for master’s, Civil Engineering for PhD, and Computer Science and Technology for master’s. All were taught in Chinese or English. The 2027/28 majors haven’t been announced, and each project can include no more than five.
How much is the monthly stipend?
The 2026/27 notice set it at CNY 3,000 per month for master’s students and CNY 3,500 for PhD students. That’s CNY 36,000 and CNY 42,000 over twelve months if it’s paid year-round, which the notice doesn’t say. NJFU hasn’t published 2027/28 Silk Road amounts, though its 2027/28 High-Level program uses the same rates.
Does it cover tuition and housing?
Yes, in the 2026/27 notice: tuition was waived and the on-campus accommodation fee was waived. It also listed CNY 800 a year for medical insurance. International travel was not covered. NJFU’s fee page lists tuition at CNY 27,000 a year for master’s and CNY 31,000 for PhD.
Do I need an NJFU supervisor’s acceptance letter?
Yes. The 2026/27 procedure told applicants to find a supervisor who would provide a provisional acceptance letter, and the document list required a letter signed and approved by the master’s or doctoral supervisor. An unsigned letter is invalid. PhD applicants also needed their study plan signed by a Chinese supervisor.
Can I apply to both Silk Road and the High-Level program?
The notices don’t say. The 2026/27 Silk Road rules did require that you hadn’t been granted another scholarship for that year, so holding two awards wasn’t allowed. Ask the Admission Office at zhangy@njfu.com.cn before you submit to both routes. The High-Level deadline, February 21, 2027, comes first.
